A sneak preview of John McCain's secret anti-Romney ad. - By John Dickerson

advertisement

On Thursday, Mitt Romney put up a television ad knocking John McCain for not supporting tax cuts and offering amnesty to illegal aliens. The ad asks "John McCain, an honorable man. But is he the right Republican for the future?" Now the McCain team is thinking about using Romney's own words (and campaign aides) to respond.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Taste of his own medicine -- Romney already has to face ads paid for by irate gay Republicans who felt betrayed by his flip-flopping on gay rights. It might prove to be that it's as hard to fight for the Republican nomination if you come from Massachussets as it is to fight the general election as a Democratic candidate from the same state.

That is a great ad. I hope he uses it. It would be very effective using Romney's own words against him.
